Precision Casting Process
1. Die Casting
Die Casting involves pouring or injecting molten metal under high-pressure metal into a precision metal mold cavity at high speed, and the liquid metal is cooled and solidified under pressure to form a casting. This allows each part to be created with high precision accuracy and repeatability.
2. Sand Casting
Sand Casting is a less precise process than die casting with molds which are made primarily of sand with a certain percentage of clay mixed in. The use of sand molds allows for a lower initial set-up cost, and a shorter lead time of product development and first production launch, comparing to other processes. Sand casting can produce very large parts weighing of thousands of pounds.
3.Cold casting
Cold casting uses low-cost silicone production molds cast from a master mold, creating an exact reverse replica. Silicone molds are durable, easy to make, and capture fine surface details. Two-part liquid poly resin is mixed, poured into the mold, and cured chemically. Vacuum chambers remove air bubbles from the resin. Similarly, silicone products can be efficiently cold-cast using thin-walled, low-cost steel molds.
4. Investment Casting
Investment casting is a high-precision near-net-shape forming process. Its core working principle is as follows: first, wax patterns of the parts are produced; the exterior of the wax patterns is repeatedly coated and layered with multiple coats of refractory slurry to form a ceramic shell mold. Afterwards, the internal wax is melted out by heating, and the shell mold undergoes high-temperature calcination. Molten metal is poured into the fully calcined shell mold. Once the metal cools down, the ceramic shell mold is broken to remove the casting.Castings manufactured via this process feature excellent surface finish. The process can replicate extremely complex thin-walled geometries and micro-details, requiring minimal or even no subsequent machining.
5. Coated sand
Coated sand core making is an efficient sand core production process. The sand grains used are coated with phenolic resin on their surfaces, and the sand solidifies and forms sh1pe inside heated metal dies. Production workflow: Preheat the core box to 200–280°C and close the mold; inject resin-coated sand into the mold cavity with compressed air. Sand grains adjacent to the mold wall are heated and cured to form a rigid shell layer with a thickness of 3–10 mm. Loose residual sand inside the hollow shell is poured out to fabricate hollow thin-wall shell cores. After secondary curing, the sand cores are ejected from the mold.A single shell core can be fully manufactured within 1 to 2 minutes. Sand cores produced by this process boast smooth surfaces, high dimensional accuracy, and excellent shakeout performance after casting pouring.
